common USE CASES
Backstop Netting Is Essential for Baseball & Softball Facilities
Backstop netting plays a critical role in protecting players, spectators, and surrounding areas in baseball and softball. With foul balls and line drives frequently exceeding 90–100 mph, the risk of injury is significant; MLB data alone reports over 1,750 fan injuries each year from foul balls. As a result, properly designed backstop netting has become a standard safety feature at fields of every level, from youth leagues to professional stadiums.
Protecting Spectators
Installed behind home plate, backstop netting serves as the first line of defense against foul balls and errant hits, helping keep fans safe without obstructing the view of the game.
Containing High-Velocity Impacts
Backstop systems are engineered to absorb and contain powerful impacts from line drives, foul tips, and wild pitches, preventing balls from entering seating areas, dugouts, or walkways.
Meeting Modern Safety Expectations
Extended backstop netting has become the norm across baseball and softball facilities, reflecting evolving safety standards and a growing emphasis on protecting fans and participants.
Supporting Safer, More Efficient Play
By containing balls within the field of play, backstop netting reduces disruptions, limits ball retrieval time, and helps maintain a smooth, uninterrupted game experience.

We Offer Different Types of Backstop Netting Solutions
Nets of Texas is built to solve any backstop or barrier netting challenge. We specialize in providing the perfect netting solution for every project, offering a wide range of backstop options to meet your needs.
A canopy backstop system offers several advantages for sports complexes and stadiums. One of the key benefits is its ability to provide superior protection for spectators by fully covering the bleachers and the area behind the field with netting. The canopy design ensures unobstructed sightlines for fans, enhancing their experience without poles blocking their view. This system is most commonly used in the renovation of ballparks and sports complexes where the existing backstop is not tall enough to provide effective protection.
Our flagship product, the suspension backstop system, features poles that are not aligned with the netting. Instead, the netting is supported by cables that extend beyond the edge of the net to poles positioned outside the sightline of spectators. This design ensures a clearer and more enjoyable viewing experience, as there are no poles obstructing the view. Our innovation in creating this system has established us as industry leaders in the baseball and softball backstop sector.
If you already have a chain-link backstop in good condition, one option we offer is our chain-link backstop netting extension system. An original innovation by Nets of Texas, this system is designed to enhance an existing chain-link backstop by adding poles and netting that attach to the current structure. It’s a cost-effective solution for ballparks where the existing chain-link backstop is not providing adequate coverage.
The classic design, the inline backstop system, combines nets and poles arranged parallel to the baseline and behind home plate. The term “inline” refers to the positioning of the poles, which align with the netting, typically at the corners of the backstop and at the ends of the net. This type of system is used when the poles must be placed in line with the netting due to a lack of space to place them elsewhere. In past years, this was the go-to design for most sports complexes and ballparks; however, it has recently been surpassed by the groundbreaking innovation of the suspension backstop system.

4 Reasons Why Netting Backstops Are Superior to Chain Link Options
Netting backstops offer several significant advantages over traditional chain-link backstops for baseball and softball fields.
REASON 1
Visibility
One of the key benefits of netting is that it provides better visibility for spectators, coaches, and fans. Unlike chain-link fencing, which can obstruct views with its larger number of poles, thicker gauge, and metallic glare, netting backstops allow for an unobstructed, clearer line of sight.
REASON 2
Maintenance
Chain-link can become damaged over time, particularly after frequent impacts from fast-moving balls. This wear and tear can lead to bent, rusted, or weakened sections of the fence that require costly repairs or replacements, as whole panels of chain-link would have to be replaced to repair a single small section. Netting, on the other hand, tends to be more durable and less prone to physical damage.
REASON 3
Aesthetics
Netting, when compared to chain-link wire, has greater visibility because it can be made of thinner, high-strength materials such as Nylon or Dyneema that are less noticeable, for an unobstructed, clearer line of sight – ensuring that fans can see the game more and remain focused without distractions or obstructions.
REASON 4
Impact Absorption
Netting is designed to stretch and dissipate the force of a baseball or softball impact, reducing the likelihood of balls ricocheting unpredictably. This creates a safer environment for both players and spectators, as there is less chance of errant balls flying off the backstop at high speeds.
